Fender Custom Shop Ltd Editions, May 2013

DSC_8439Fender Custom shop just released a few of the most ornately detailed instruments its ever produced.  We’ll take a look at the Limited Jazzmaster Pro, Limited Custom Deluxe Jazzmaster, Limited La Cabronita “Luchador” Stratocaster, Limited La Cabronita “Gato Gordo” Jaguar and the Limited Relic 1955 Precision Bass.  Each Custom Shop instrument comes with its own certificate of authenticity, limited case, picks, polishing cloth, strap and a cable.

First up is the Limited Jazzmaster Pro.  It sits in the Pro Collection of the Fender Custom Shop.  It takes the best of both worlds both old and new and combines itself into a lean mean fighting machine.  It stays lean with a single custom bridge pickup and lightweight ash body.   Note the two-point synchronized tremolo made from 1018 cold-rolled steel.  This Jazzmaster includes the Greasebucket tone circuit made famous on the American Special series, locking tuners, gold anodized aluminum pickguard and 6105 frets on a premium quartersawn maple neck.

The absolutely stunning Limited Custom Deluxe Jazzmaster is up next.  It doesn’t stray too far from the Jazzmaster we all know and love, Fender just showed us how well it can clean up for a night out on the town!  Gold locking tuners match the gold hardware and gold anodized aluminum pickguard that sits on a flamed maple topped select okoume body finished in Honey Blonde.  The maple neck is all AAA flame with a 9.5″ radius rosewood fingerboard and mother of pearl dot inlays.  The frets are 6105 and the bridge is an Adjusto-Matic with vintage-styled floating tremolo.

Next is the Limited La Cabronita “Luchador” Stratocaster.  Yes that is a complicated name for a relatively simple instrument.  The striking six-string is built around a quartersawn maple neck with a Telecaster headstock.  It features a 9.5″ radius and 6105 frets.  The electronics are a single TV Jones Power’Tron pickup through a Greasebucket tone circuit.  Finishing touches are chrome tuners with pearloid buttons, a single-ply parchment pickguard and a hardtail bridge with stainless steel saddles.

The Limited La Cabronita “Gato Gordo” Jaguar stretches the boundaries of a standard Jaguar, most notably the 25.5″ scale from nut to bridge and a single TV Jones Power’Tron pickup with a Greasebucket tone circuit like its amigo the La Cabronita Stratocaster shown above.  Other comparisons include the chrome tuners with pearloid buttons, a hardtail bridge with stainless steel saddles,  9.5″ radius quartersawn maple neck with 6105 frets and a single-ply parchment pickguard.

Lastly the Limited Relic 1955 Precision Bass offers something the Fender Custom Shop has never done on a bass; a relic’d black finish over a 3-tone nitro lacquer sunburst finish.  The body is a lightweight ash with a custom-wound stacked ’51 pickup and  2-barrel steel saddles that sit on a vintage-styled chrome bridge.  The neck is quartersawn maple with a 7.25″ radius and features vintage-styled frets on a maple fingerboard.  Finishing touches include bridge and pickup covers, a single-ply parchment pickguard and flat-wound strings.
