Fender Springs New Models For May 2013

Fender, Corona, CaliforniaWhile everyone else is concerned with dropping those extra pounds for swimsuit season, Fender is fattening up their famous Standard, Classic and Cabronita Series with an array of cool new guitars and basses. Some of the “new” guitars and basses being announced are truly new and unique. While others are changes and improvements in some of their existing lines of Strats, Teles and basses.

The Classic Series now features period correct finishes. This means you’ll see nitrocellulose lacquer finishes on the 50s Stratocaster, Telecaster, Precision Bass and Jazz Bass as well as on the 60s Stratocaster and Jazz Bass. So, let the controversy about what’s better, nitro or poly, or whether or not this change is “nitro enough” begin on all the guitar fansites around the world. For now, we’re just glad to make the announcement.

The Standard series welcomes Plus Tops to its lineup.  A Plus Top is a thin sheet of flamed maple on top of the Standard series alder bodies.  Keep on the lookout for this on the Standard Stratocaster, Standard Stratocaster Left-handed model, Standard Stratocaster HSS (meaning 2 single coil pickups in the neck and middle position and a humbucker in the bridge) and the Standard Stratocaster HSS with locking nut and tremolo.

Finally the Cabronita Series welcomes two new instruments; the Cabronita Telecaster Thinline and the Cabronita Precision Bass.

First let’s look at the Cabronita Thinline Telecaster.  Its lightweight design is thanks to a semi-hollow ash body.  The neck is dressed in a urethane finish on a modern C shape with a 9.5″ radius .  The neck features 22 medium jumbo frets (yes a high D!) and a maple fretboard decorated with single black inlay dots.  The pickups are a set of FideliTron humbuckers directed by a 3-way pickup selector and a single volume knob.  Look for the Carbonita in White Blonde, 2-tone Sunburst (both a single-ply white pickguard) and Shoreline Gold (black pickguard).  The bridge is a Stratocaster style hardtail with string-through the body design.

Last up is the Cabronita Precision Bass.  Standout features are a modern high mass bridge, a single FideliTron bridge humbucker, reverse-style tuners, side-mounted input jack and knurled master tone and volume knobs.  Comes in 2-tone Sunburst(black pickguard), Black and Candy Apple Red (both white pickguards).   The alder body boasts a forearm contour and the C-shaped, 20 medium jumbo fret maple neck is finished in gloss urethane finish with black dot inlays.
